Language - Resources and pitfalls
Well, the biggest gripe I have with Spanish (Castellano) is that they have regular and irregular verbs. This would not be such a problem, it's just all useful verbs seem to be irregular!
Knowing this and a good grammatical book, there is one just for irregular verbs, can overcome this. So you head straight for the next pitfalls.
The english for or German für translates into por or para.
The full rule set is here por vs. para
The short one is- destination, usage, soon to be finished or a destination (name) use para. All other probably are por.
Being lazy I tend to use Altavistas Babelfish, with a good pinch of salt.
Collins for Spanish and translations between English Spanish English is a great resource now available from Reverso.net.
I like their great examples and surrounding explanations.
They also have a convenient conjugator - Conjugate it
Another very useful resource is Wordreference. They also have a conjugator and it can be added to your Google toolbar if you so wish.

Now this is all well, just here in Galicia they also speak Galego.
I can not comment or even describe this yet but if you are versed in Castellano you surely will understand the full Wikipedia entry about Galego.
This is a great site, in English and Galego, about the Galician language. The english version is here. It explains about the history and development of the language and does include a small dictionary Galego - English - Castellano. This maybe helpful as the local authorities have to write all documents in Galego.
Another great source for Galego is Omniglot - written and spoken languages of the world.
The good old Beep (BBC)has a great site dedicated to Spanish. The offers range from pure beginners or fast track to advanced. A lot of further resources are available from there.
