Total tranquility - A first report on some typical noises in Mer

So we are in our new house for about three weeks and thought to give a noise report:

country side view……………………………………………………… (total tranquility)

As no HGV can get near our house the only road noise is the odd car, neighbours tractor the horn when the bread van comes round and on Wednesdays a different honk from the fish monger.

My wife tells me that last time I tried riding my bicycle next doors donkey laughed his head off.

This nicely brings me to the cow. At around 5pm she wants to get back to her calf in the stable and starts moohing. When we leave the door open she always puts her head in. Can make you jump when you just come down the stairs.

As the weather improves the various early bees, bumble bees and yet to be identifies black things (large) buzz about.

Whilst digging in the garden we unearthed a large toad, still hibernating. This will be a noise to look forward to.

The occasional airplane fairly high up does not drown out birdsong and the rustling of leaves in the wind.

Now the house has some interesting noises of its own.

The water pump has a hick up every few hours.

Our wood burner howls like a distant wolf, missing its fire cord round the glass panel.

Above the oven in the ceiling we seem to have an exercise course. We are not yet sure what kind of animal is dwelling there but as soon as we light the fire the first race of the evening starts.

Watch this space - we will report exclusively from the live above the ceiling - if we ever find out that is!

Apart from that the floor squeaks in various places and ways, the warm water boiler goes wooof, the tumble dryer whinges and the waste water pipe in the bathroom gurgles.
Speaking of which. This waste pipe is not completely connected. Any bath water and the affluence of the washing machine are only confined for some meters after which they can be watched flowing freely down the path disappearing in the field.
I have to check if we get “blue grass” next time the jeans are in.

Ah, the neighbours car is coming home - nothing goes unnoticed in a small village.

OK - soon off to bed listening for more noises to report.
