Rural Galicia a typical start into the new year
Here is a typical start of the new year Galician style, if this event happens to fall on a convenient long weekend.
To regain a clear head nothing beats braving the weather and go out for a walk.
Greeting the new year sheep is something we just invented, no, its not yet a custom.
The massive amount of rain we had over the last weeks has now changed the ground into a swamp. This very old tree is one of the victims of this, it lost purchase and a gusty wind aided in felling it.
Please notice the snow in the distance! It’s coming ever closer.

The inclement weather outside, the central heating combined with a nice little wood fire, sitting down with friends for an extended dinner – just
bliss……….
The exercise after dinner, so we thought, consisted of simply changing the venue and settling down on the nice comfy couch in the salon.

This normally does work nicely, except when you are in rural Galicia. At about 10:30 we heard some noises coming from the outside and shortly thereafter neighbours kids knocked on the window “fuera – para bailar!”.

We hurried to throw on some warmer cloth and went outside.
There they were – the local folk band lead by Alfonso – reciting Galician songs.
Because the “tres reyes” is soon, but mid week, this year there was a combined performance for new year and the three kings.
So we just celebrated a bit with all the neighbors.
Typical rural Galicia – So don’t get into your jim-jams too early!
Yesterday we had spring like temperatures and planted some more trees, now the weather forecast it threatening frost and snow. So never fear the weather roller coaster is in full swing.
It looks like real snow on the way and quite a bit of it. As we are on 450 meters, this should be fun.
I’ll report soon.

Hola
Happy New year. We have blizzard conditions here at the moment. looks like I will be walking home. Les will set off and meet me. We had a very quiet xmas and new year as we were both full of flu. We are busy pulling our hair out at the moment trying to get the correct information on what is required in permenantly bringing across my two cats. Defra only seems to cover return journeys. If you know anyone who has recantly moved across with there pets on a one way ticket can you ask them for a little info.
Looks like I may be sent home early due to the snow. A hot bath and toddy awaits
Love and best wishes to you both

Hi Julie,
we are expecting snow and frost – well we’ll see.
I’ll ask around – So far micro chip (Tatoo only till 2012 so basically its now simply required) – blue Euro pet passport showing uptodate info. Required is a valid rabbies vaccination.
That’s it.
Only when you intend to reimport a pet to the UK is it complicated with tests after 30 days etc. One way this is not needed.
