Culture in Sober - A classical concert - A good night out after a rainy day
Another very wet day but like the rain bow at the end of our field we looked forward to another classical concert.
Our concello - Sober (Ribeira Sacra) - seem to have great connections to the “Conservatorio Profesional de Musica de Orense“ as well as many local artists. But the roots go much deeper. The “Banda de Sober” loosely translated band / orchestra of Sober exists for more than 130 years and is one of the oldest in Galicia.
It dates back to 1869, when returning from the military band of Pamplona, Casimiro Perez nicknamed Lopez “Or Chá” from Canabal founded the first band with a conductor.
It should be noted that at the end of 1800 Sober had about 10,000 inhabitants in more than 400 villages of all sizes and due to the many musicians was also known as - Sober land of musicians- .
